Anantnag encounter update
Anti-terrorism operation is still going on in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Zone Police has confirmed that security forces have surrounded two terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)-linked terrorist Uzair Khan.

Sacrifice of brave officers
During the ongoing operation, in a tragic turn of events, many officers displayed unwavering courage. Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat made the supreme sacrifice while leading their teams in the face of danger. Our armed forces are fully engaged in surrounding two terrorists including Uzair Khan associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Kokernag incident
The operation comes after a deadly encounter that took place in Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Wednesday. Three security personnel, including Colonel Manpreet Singh of the 19th Rashtriya Rifles Unit, were martyred in the exchange of fire with the terrorists. They were on a mission to locate and deal with terrorists when they received information about the presence of terrorists.
Brave Colonel Manpreet Singh
Colonel Manpreet Singh, leading the 19th Rashtriya Rifles unit, took charge of the position and attacked the terrorists. However, the terrorists retaliated and fired, seriously injuring him. Subsequently, Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhatt also suffered serious injuries and later died. It was reported that Bhatt died due to excessive bleeding.
Tribute and commemoration
A wreath laying ceremony was organized for Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak and Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Bhat to pay tribute to their immense bravery during the operation. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences. Before this incident, two terrorists were killed in another encounter in Rajouri district.
This operation is a reminder of the continuous efforts of our security forces in maintaining peace and countering terrorism in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
