Qatar has released 8 former Indian Navy personnel who were detained on espionage charges, 7 officers return to India.

India has achieved a big win regarding the release of former Indian Navy personnel detained in Qatar. Qatar has released the Indian Navy officer who was sentenced to death by the Qatari court. A statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that out of 8 former navy personnel, 7 have returned to India, and the Indian Foreign Minister also thanked Qatar for the decision to release the navy personnel.

India has achieved a significant diplomatic win regarding the release of Indian former Navy personnel detained in Qatar. Qatar has released the Indian Navy officers. The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that out of the 8 personnel, 7 have returned to India. Following India's request, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had already reduced their death sentences to imprisonment.


Indian Ministry of External Affairs said:

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said, "The Indian government welcomes the release of 8 Indian citizens detained in Qatar while working for Dahra Global Company. Out of 8, 7 have returned to India. We appreciate the Emir of Qatar's decision for their release and repatriation."

Navy officer arrested in August 2022:

In August 2022, former Indian Navy personnel working with Al Duhara Global Technologies and Consultancy Services (ADGTCS) were detained over espionage-related allegations. On October 26, 2023, a Qatari court sentenced eight former Indian Navy personnel to death. The Indian government took this matter very seriously and was continuously in talks with Qatar regarding this issue.


PM of India and Qatar's Emir Meeting:

During the COP28 summit in Dubai on December 1st last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Emir, where they discussed the issue of the 8 former Indian Navy personnel detained in Qatar. Following this meeting, the Emir reduced their death sentences to imprisonment, and now the Qatari government has released them.

Names of 8 Indian Navy officer:

The names of the 8 Indians Navy officer who detained in Qatar are Captain Navtej Singh Gill, Captain Birendra Kumar Varma, Captain Saurabh Vashishth, Commander Amit Nagpal, Commander Purnendu Tiwari, Commander Sugunakar Pakala, Commander Sanjeev Gupta, and Sailor Ragesh.

This is a very big piece of good news for India, and it will make relations between India and Qatar even better.
